Breeding hamsters
Roborovski dwarfhamster, Winterwhite dwarfhamster & Campbells dwarfhamster
Winter desert Hamstery breeds purebred and with pedigrees. I do not breed hybrid dwarfhamsters (winterwhites x campbells) nor do i cross these 2 species when breeding. My focus is to breed healthy hamsters with stable and good temperaments, body comformation and size. Optimal weight and lenghts vary between the 3 species but on all of them the male is bigger than the females. Robos ideal weight and length is 25 - 45 grams and 7 - 9cm. Winterwhites it is 35 - 65 grams and 8 - 12cm, campbells 40 - 70 grams and 9 -12 cm. All winterwhites and campbells get tested for diabetes before breeding. The females get bred when they turn 5 - 6 months and the males are typicly 6 months or older before their first breedings. The females get between 1 - 3 litters in their lifetime but usually its 2 litters. The males are bred with up to 2 -3 different females before i retire them, this is to keep genetic diversity. The females are at the oldest 1 year 1 month with their last litters as long as they have had 1 or 2 litters before. If the female has not had her first litter before 11 months of age, she retires as the complication risk increases.
